What to Expect: Step By Step Counter-Top Installation

slabYard

1. Selection of Material
There are many materials on the market today such as glass,
granite, quartz, marble, limestone to name a few. This step colors the rest of the installation project so make sure to make and informed to decision. Know your choice inside and out e.g. pros, cons, lifetime of material. Also be aware of the limitations of your chosen material. Edging options tend to be a limiting factor. If you are choosing a synthetic material and really want a double ogee edge make sure that is possible. Edging options are limitless, ask ask ask!

2. Appliances
The second step you want to take after placing your order is making
sure you have all the appliances you need for the survey date. Sinks and rangetops are especially important. Your contractor must measure around these appliances so they must be present when the contractor comes to take the spec (measure).

3. Survey

Once you have received your sinks (most sink dealers will ship to
fabricator) call your fabricator when your base cabinets are
installed so they can make a survey or a wood template of the cabinet. Ask your fabricator if
there are any designs he recommends to add to the counter top, i.e.
curves extra overhang. Be explicit in describing exactly what you want but heed the advice of your fabricator. Keep in mind the survey is the finished product so cabinet placement cannot change after this step.

5. Installation
Once fabrication is complete installation will be scheduled. Installation takes any where from 2 to 8 hours. Be
sure to clear your day or leave a proxy at home. At the time of
installation the installers need
A. sinks [cut in shop]
B. cook tops [cut on job site]
C. faucets [cut on job site]
D. support system for large over hangs

The installation team is comprised of counter top professionals, so sit back and let
them create! During installation some dust or debris may culminate on
the job site the crew will make sure to tidy up!

After the counter top project is completed one more step remains:sealing.Sealing is a process only done for natural materials. All natural materials must be sealed by a certified sealer. If they are not sealed granites and marbles will eventually develop stains. We here at International Stone recommend Stone Guard, for more info call fabrication. Once completed, you are free to enjoy your beautiful counter-top created with integrity and craftsmanship that will last a lifetime.
